Despierta América is Univision’s flagship morning show and a cultural icon for Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. and Latin America.

Airing live every weekday, the show blends breaking news, entertainment, celebrity interviews, and lifestyle content. Hosted by Alan Tacher, Francisca, Karla Martínez, Raúl González, Jomari Goyso, and others, it reaches millions daily across platforms.

Since May 2024, I’ve been responsible for editing and adapting daily video content for the show’s social media channels. The goal was to maximize views and engagement, helping the show stay relevant while boosting branded content opportunities and promoting guest appearances.

Process

— Daily Workflow: Every morning, I received raw footage from the Social Media Producer. Working remotely, I edited and delivered short-form vertical videos aligned with the day’s show within tight same-day deadlines, ensuring each piece matched the fast-paced tone and brand visuals of Despierta América.

— Creative Ownership: While I received general briefs, I had creative freedom to define the narrative structure and style of each video. This included editing with dynamic transitions, captions, stickers, animations, and music where appropriate—optimized for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

Backstage Moments

Spontaneous behind-the-scenes clips showing cast and crew in off-script moments. These included quick interviews, sketch-style bits, and playful games among the hosts—offering a fun, candid glimpse into the show’s personality and studio energy.

Celebrity Interviews

Fast-paced interviews with in-studio or remote guests, often featuring spicy questions or timed challenges. These segments captured the talent’s charisma while creating moments designed for engagement and viral sharing across platforms.

Chistes de Astrid

Short-form comedy content featuring Astrid Rivera’s daily jokes, edited with jump cuts, animated subtitles, and timed reaction shots to boost the humor. Each clip was crafted to match platform trends while maintaining the show’s signature tone.

Branded Content

Collaborating remotely from Mexico with the Social Media Producer, hosts, and branded content teams based at Univision’s studios in Miami, I edited branded videos that demanded speed, creativity, and a deep understanding of the show’s tone and audience. These pieces balanced storytelling with performance goals, driving high engagement and audience connection. Notable campaigns include:

Despierta América en República Dominicana. Edited coverage that helped generate 8.8M views and 300K+ engagements across 30+ posts. Audience feedback praised the tropical setting and fresh energy of the content.

El Carro de Shakira. Edited multiple pieces for this campaign, including the Finalists Reveal, Winner Announcement (616K views on Instagram), and Prize Delivery (1.5M views on TikTok, 381K on IG). Each video was crafted to maintain excitement and emotional connection with the audience.
